What kind of katydid is this and what gender is it?

What does it eat?  Should I release it or does it destroy plants like say, a hornworm would?

Hi, Kyla:  This is a female Greater Anglewing Katydid, Microcentrum rhombifolium, as far as I can tell.  A male would have modifications to the wings near the "shoulder," as that is how it "sings."  There may be another species of Microcentrum in your area, I'm not sure.  Yes, she eats leaves, but katydids do not have *near* the appetite that caterpillars do!  Just release her, she will do no damage of any magnitude.  Thanks for sharing your discovery!

Awesome! I might keep her for a while since she's so cool. What kinds of leaves should I give her? Someone told me some eat bugs too. Does she eat bugs too, or only leaves?
